Far Away from Home

Post by Shaista Parpia

The moon sighting was confirmed,

Happiness echoing through the walls.

Laughter lingered in the air,

As joy responded to its soft calls.

Amidst the twinkling stars above,

A small cloud drifted aside.

As though the sky itself could feel,

The quiet ache I kept inside.

Laughter spilled though every room,

The scent of henna floating within.

Beautiful outfits laid for the morn,

Let the oud and perfumes begin.

A tear ran gently down my cheek,

Watery eyes, a fragile smile.

A different Eid, away from home,

Love and memories bridging each mile.

The warmth of home on this blessed day,

Still lingers softly in my heart.

Though miles may keep my loved ones far,

My partner’s love fills every part.

Smiles all around, yet I feel so hollow,

Every gesture here is new to me,

Laughs and cheers I cannot truly follow,

Nothing compares to Eid at home, you see.
