The Weight of Midnight

Post by Shaista Parpia

Staying awake as the night grows colder,
Each second stretched thin.
Now distant the echoes of laughter,
Replaced by the ache within.

Blankets can’t shield the trauma,
Nor the shivers down my spine.
Eyes wide in dilemma,
Haunted by what once was mine.

The air breathes heavier with each sigh,
Walls listening to secrets I no longer can hide.
My breaths asking for excuses to justify-
The storm I carry on the inside.

I search for solace in shadows,
But they vanish when I try.
What exactly is comfort,
If nothing but a lie?
